SAMAL ISLANDS, DAVAO
Ein kleiner beschreib unseres zukünftiges Zuhause

Land Area
The sangguniang districts of Babak, Samal and Kaputian now comprising the Island Garden of Samal cover a total land area of 30`130 hectares. Among these district the largest is Kaputian with an area of 11`700 hectares while the smallest is Babak with 7`335 hectares. Samal land area is placed at 8`962 hectares.

Topography
Distance-wise, it is barely 900 meters east of Davao City and 10 kilometres west of Pantukan, Comval Province. This proximity to the City has invariably affected the linkages of the productive sectors of the archipelago’s economy.
The area’s topography is characterised by an extensive mountain range, a number of isolated hills and uneven distribution of lowlands. The east coast is particularly with very few plains. The tallest mountain is Putting Bato or Tayapoc Mountain which stands at height of 1´364 ft.

Geography
A number of natural waterways can be found in the islands although none of them are navigable. The major free flowing water systems are the Binoling stream and the Aundanao stream in Samal. Also existing is one waterfall, the Hagimit falls, which approximately 15 feet in height and nine other natural springs namely: Kinawitnon, Libuak, Tambo and San Antonio Spring in Babak, Piglabasan and Lingasakan Springs in Kaputian and the Supa, Alibongog, Tagbilinao Spring in Samal. Mean annual temperature is 26.9 C, and the area is outside the typhoon belt.

Accessibility
Access to this lands is via ferry from Davao City which has an international airport. There are daily flights from Manila and other cities in the Visayas and Mindano as well as regular flights from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong mostly over Cebu-City

Local Economy
Davao City is acknowledged as the trade, business, and commercial centre of Southern Mindanao. It is serviced by major telecommunication, banking, and financial firms. The city also has shopping, dining, and entertainment facilities.
While agriculture, fisheries and forestry provide the bulk of the region's products, tourism is also an important factor which contributes to the dramatic growth of the regional economy.

Tourist Attractions
There are countless other attractions unique to the area, apart from the white sand beaches and coves, underwater coral cities, tribal customs and the rich traditions of Samal Islands.
For nature lovers, there is cool and lush Mt. Apo situated 10,311 feet above sea level on whose slopes perches the Philippine Eagle Research and Nature Centre. Golfers have a choice of two spectacular courses in Davao city while holiday visitors can have their fill of sightseeing and shopping for tribal weaves and shellcraft.

There are currently 10 resorts on Samal Islands with accommodations ranging from simple to luxurious.
