FELSENGRÄBER    ROCK TOMBS

(Petra 2)

 

Petra ist weltberühmt geworden durch seine in den massiven Fels gehauenen Grabmäler in der unmittelbaren Nähe (aber auch teilweise recht entfernt!) des antiken Stadtzentrums. Petra has become world-famous because of its extraordinary funeral "buildings", mainly cut into solid rock in the vicinity (and also further surroundings!) of the ancient city center.

In den felsigen Wänden des Kessels von Petra finden sich überall aus dem Stein gehauene Grabdenkmäler.

In the cliffs surrounding the basin of the city there are innumerable tombs cut into the solid rock.

Das wohl gigantischte dieser "Objekte" wird Ed Der genannt. Es ist rund 50 Meter hoch und auch etwa ebenso breit!

Die risigen Dimensionen können an den Besuchern auf dem runden Dach des mittleren Turmes abgelesen werden...

The most gigantic of these rock-"objects" called Ed der is about 50 meters high and equally wide (approximately 150 feet)!

The dimensions can be seen by the peaople standing on the circular roof of the middle tower...
